One person, identified as Seun, has been killed in the early hours of Friday in Ijebu-Igbo, the Headquarters of the Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State as the hostility between two rival cult groups – Eiye and Aye, in the town worsened.
Seun was traced to his father’s house in Ojowo area of the violence – endemic Ijebu – Igbo by armed youths suspected to be members of a cult group and hacked to death in a revenge attack over the gruesome killing of one Owolabi at the station garage, yesterday, around 4:am,
It was gathered that some people have been arrested by the Police in connection with the latest killing.
In the last five or six weeks, Ijebu – Igbo has been under siege by people suspected to be locked in cult war over supremacy tussle and no fewer than nine persons, including a Police Inspector, have lost their lives in the process.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a telephone interview confirmed the cult – related killing of the victim (Seun), in his detailed reaction, stated that eight people have been arrested and arms recovered from them.
“Following a bloody cult clash between two rival groups which left one person dead on Wednesday night, eight principal suspects who are members of Aiye and Eiye confraternity have been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command.
“The suspects were picked up at their hideout where they were holding a meeting in preparation for another clash. Immediately the report of the clash got to the notice of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, he directed the Special Units of the Command such as FSARS and Anti Cultist/Kidnapping sections to move in and bring the hoodlums to Justice.
“In compliance with the Commissioner of Police directive, the Officer-in-charge of FSARS, Dsp Uba Adam, swung into action, and embarked on technical intelligence based investigation. Their efforts paid off when the hideout of the hoodlums was discovered. They stormed the place and got eight of them arrested with various types of dangerous arms and ammunition.
“The arrested cultists are: Muyiwa Talabi ‘m’, Tunde Adeyemi ‘m’, Korede Pariosho ‘m’, Dayo Johnson ‘m’, Segun Saka ‘m’, Niyi Adeshina ‘m’, Micheal Oluwaseun ‘m’, and Afolabi Ismail ‘m’. It was discovered that the duo of Muyiwa Talabi and Niyi Adeshina who are strong members of Aye group were the ones who hacked the victim of Wednesday clash to death.
“Their co-accomplice who also played prominent role was traced to his house by the rival group and hacked to death early this morning before Police got to his house for the purpose of arresting him. Recovered from them are two pump action guns, four locally made double barrel pistols, eleven live cartridges and assorted charms.”
According to him, the Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the perpetrators of the dastardly killing and their sponsors be brought to justice
