Ogbonnaiye Francis – Ado-Ekiti
Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Ekiti State, Mr. Akinloye Ayegbusi, has called on Ekiti electorate to look beyond the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the only platforms for genuine change in the July 14 election.
The SDP candidate said the two political parties have been trusted and tested in the past but they failed the people woefully.
According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, Ayegbusi described both APC and PDP as too corrupt to lead Ekiti, taking cognizance of the slow pace of development the state had witnessed since its creation in 1996.
Ayegbusi advised the people to reject the two parties, having allegedly mismanaged the resources of the state when given the opportunity and embrace a more progressive SDP that was committed to initiate policies that will rejuvenate the state’s economy and make the citizens live abundant lives.
The SDP Candidate warned that the state will continue to witness massive looting of the treasury, increasing youth unemployment, hunger and non -payment of salaries, if any of the two dominant parties are given a leeway to lead Ekiti beyond 2018.
He revealed that the SDP has a well-packaged manifesto that centres majorly on improved Agriculture, well funded Education, Robust Healthcare Delivery, Social Security for indigent citizens and well spread infrastructure and public utilities that will improve the wellbeing of the citizens if given the opportunity.
The former Banker said the SDP has taken over the state as a third force and offer credible platform for the highly distraught Ekiti residents and voters to make the right choice that will change Ekiti landscape for better.
“We could all attest to how PDP and APC that had got the opportunities to rule Ekiti mismanaged the lean resources available to our dear state, thereby increasing hunger, unemployment and poverty in the system.
“We have all seen the how money took flight under the immediate past government of APC in Ekiti with the startling revelations contained in the white paper issued by judicial commission of inquiry set up by the present PDP government to comb the finances of that government.
“We all saw how multi-billion naira was misappropriated in a state with such a paltry resource.
“The APC itself didn’t keep quiet, it accused the present PDP government of borrowing over N56 billion since it came on board in 2014. Despite that, salaries have not been paid in the last eight months.
“Ekiti has the largest number of brightest youth in the country being the most educated, but today, over 10,000 of our graduates are riding Okada as means of livelihood when every successive government had failed to empower them.
“Our people have no reason to continue to languish in poverty in the midst of untapped abundance. We must change our psyche that only the PDP and APC can do it.
“The SDP has come to give our people a new lease of life and they must embrace this window of opportunity. We shall prosecute our programmes zealously and ensure that corruption is banished from our land if given the opportunity to serve”, he assured.
