A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Chief Niyi Akintola, has commended the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, for breaking the dominance of those he described as “cabals and gangsters” in Oyo politics.
The All Progressives Congress , APC, governorship aspirant, said the era of political thuggery and “garrison politics”, has been dismantled through the efforts and ingenuity of the Ajimobi-led government in the state.
Akintola, who promise to build on the legacies of Ajimobi’s government if given the opportunity to serve, warned the APC against making the mistake of fielding a wrong candidate for the 2019 governorship election.
According to him, the electorate is now wiser and knew who and what qualities they wanted in their governor.
The SAN was speaking in Ado Ekiti at the weekend, saying “If you look at the circumstance of our state before Senator Ajimobi came, one will be forced to appreciate his contributions,” he has dismantled the garrison politics and cartel in Oyo State.
“In fact, life was brutish and hectic under PDP in Oyo State and our governor had addressed this and adding value to the extent that our government is no longer being a government of the illiterates for the elites.
“Before he came, Oyo even had a garrison commander, who fomented troubles every day. He had succeeded in banishing thuggery, hooliganism and killing from Oyo and I am ready to build on these values and legacies if given the opportunity.”
On his chances to secure the party’s ticket for the governorship seat, Akintola said: “My personality stands me out. Apart from this, the electorate are the biggest deciders, they knew what they wanted and any party that presents a weak candidate will have itself to blame.”
The governorship aspirant posited that many of the PDP leaders in Oyo State were defecting to APC because of his influence.
“They are joining our party because many of them had benefited from my legal expertise before, so I have intimidating credentials to win election for our party,” he added.
Akintola condemned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari, had failed to deliver on his electioneering campaigns.
“As we speak, work is ongoing on Lagos-Ibadan rail line, President Buhari, is fighting corruption and you could see the amount of monies the federal government had recovered from looters. All these attest to the fact that the APC is working.”
