Be ICT Compliant, Oyo Sports Council Boss Charges Football Administrators

The General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde has told Match Commissioners, Referees Assessors and Referees handling football matches in the various leagues in the country to be ICT compliant if they want to be relevant in the business of football administration.

Makinde gave the charge on Monday while opening a seminar organised by the Oyo state Referees Council, NRA, for these categories of administrators. He stressed that Sports, all over the world, were now technology driven and administrators in Nigeria could not afford to be left behind.

In his remarks, Oyo State Council chairman of the NRA, Alhaji Kayode Jimoh said that the seminar was necessary to update the knowledge of participants and make them aware of the latest amendments to the Laws of the Game of Football. Jimoh noted that the Council was satisfied with the performance of its members handling the game of football in the various leagues.

The guest of honour at the seminar, Bode Oyewole, himself a Premier League Match Commissioner, spoke on integrity for Match Officials. Oyewole, the Publisher and CEO of The Sketch Newspapers emphasised that match officials must not only be competent and committed, but also must have integrity. He stressed that footballers and fans all over the world respect match officials especially Referees who demonstrate confidence and knowledge of the game.

The Resource Persons at the Seminar were Professor Tunde Asagba, a CAF/FIFA Physical Fitness Instructor and Dr Dele Oladipo, a Premier League Referee Assesor, both of the University of Ibadan and Olori Jumoke Serah Odeniran, the Acting National Training Officer of the NRA, a retired FIFA female referee.

Professor Asagba spoke on ‘Fitness Tests for Referees’, while Dr Ladipo handled ‘Speed and Match Performance’. Olori Serah Odeniran gave a talk on ‘New Amendments to the Laws of the Game’ and ‘Match Reports for Match Commissioners and Referee Assessors’.

More than fifty match officials from all over Oyo state attended the seminar, which held at the Indoor Sports Hall of Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan. They include FIFA Assistant Ref Laide Usman and FIFA Woman Ref Foluso Ajayi.
